Barbara is Taranaki born and although she has moved away several times in her life, she has always heard the call to return. The voices emanate from the mountain, the beaches and the landscape.
Self-taught, the Warea artist works in acrylics on stretched canvas, attracted by the speedy drying acrylics offer.
Barbara's translation of landscapes and waterways into streams of colour strikes a chord with many people. Ribbons of unexpected colour push the images to impressionism but still render them recognisable to the viewer.
Having been painting for fifteen years, Barbara has many achievements to be proud of. These include being accepted for the Homework Exhibition, winning recognition at several Taranaki Art Awards – Rural Section and Toi tu Taranaki, being featured in two art books featuring emerging and established Taranaki Artists, taking part in Taranaki Renegade Art, and making sales to people around the world.
Barbara's art is inspired by Taranaki's amazing landscapes and waterways and she is happiest when painting images of our maunga – Taranaki.
